The Minister of Territorial Policy, Ángel Víctor Torres, stated this Tuesday that the Canary Islands is the community in the country with the highest percentage of people benefiting from the increase in the interprofessional minimum wage, a measure that is "key and of social justice" for the islands.
In statements provided by his department, the head of Territorial Policy and Democratic Memory pointed out that there are governments "that have their priorities clear," alluding to the approval this Tuesday by the Council of Ministers of "a measure of social balance and justice for wage earners," the increase in the minimum wage by 3.1% for 2026.
This increase will benefit 2.5 million Spaniards, of whom 191,400 are from the Canary Islands, which means that 21% of wage earners in the Canary Islands will receive this increase and that the islands are the autonomous community with the highest percentage of beneficiaries, the minister continued.
Ángel Víctor Torres expressed "pride" in being part of a Government "that is clear that it must work for those who need it most, who need public services the most" and, therefore, he insisted, it is "great news for the wage earners of the Autonomous Community of the Canary Islands."
