The socialist general secretary and president of the Canary Islands government stated this Sunday that the archipelago will collaborate in welcoming Ukrainian refugees, while requesting that this territorial solidarity be extended to the migrant children who arrive to the islands from Africa.

"The Canary Islands will respond to the drama that Ukrainians are suffering," Torres said during his speech at the closing of the 14th Congress of the PSOE Gran Canaria, held this weekend.

"We, according to the responsibility that falls to us, are going to participate with the rest of the communities to welcome those Ukrainian boys and girls, of course we are," he stressed.

Likewise, he stated that he will do so "together with the rest of the autonomous communities, but also, saying emphatically: we ask for identical responsibility for the boys and girls who come from Africa."
