The partial solar eclipse that is scheduled for this Saturday can be seen in some parts of the Canary Islands. This phenomenon occurs when the Moon is in an intermediate position between the Sun and the Earth. In this case, the lunar disk will not completely cover the solar disk, since the Moon is further away from the Earth than in a total eclipse.
The National Geographic Institute (IGN) has reported that at dusk this Saturday a partial solar eclipse can be observed in the westernmost islands, that is, El Hierro, La Palma, La Gomera, Tenerife and Gran Canaria. Therefore, it cannot be observed from Lanzarote and La Graciosa.
The last partial solar eclipse visible in Spain took place on October 25, 2022, and the next one will occur on April 4, 2024, although it will have a very low magnitude. In contrast, the partial eclipse of March 29, 2025 will be visible throughout the Spanish territory. To witness a total solar eclipse from Spain, it will be necessary to wait until August 12, 2026.
