The Cumbre Vieja volcano that erupted last Sunday in the Cabeza de Vaca area, in La Palma, remains in an explosive phase and its ashes have already reached the island of La Gomera, in fine form, and the municipalities of Valle Gran Rey and San Sebastián de la Gomera.
According to the latest updated report from Pevolca, the eruption continues to show the same fissural eruptive style, with a strombolian mechanism, in a fissure in a northwest-southeast direction, with intermittent phases of greater explosiveness.
The eruptive column already reaches a height of six kilometers above sea level and it has been found that the main lava flow (the oldest) is advancing at a speed of less than 1 meter per hour, although a new lava flow has appeared that is located along the south flank.
This new lava flow has large blocks that could be associated with the partial collapse of the main eruptive center, with speeds that decreased throughout Thursday from 33 meters per hour to 12 meters per hour at the end of the day and its slowdown continues.
For the next few hours, a shift in the wind is expected at heights of between 3,000 and 5,000 meters, which will move the ash cloud towards the northeast, thus avoiding effects on air navigation.
Likewise, acid rain is ruled out in the next 24 hours, which in any case, would not cause damage to vegetation unless it was persistent.
Tajuya and Tacande neighborhoods evacuated
The General Directorate of Security and Emergencies of the Government of the Canary Islands, in application of Pevolca, has ordered this Friday the evacuation of the residents of the neighborhoods of Tajuya and Tacande --those who had not yet been evacuated-- due to the intensification of explosive activity in Cumbre Vieja.
In addition, the instability of the volcanic building has increased and the emitted materials can reach a greater distance and phenomena such as arrivals of ash and high-temperature volcanic material can occur beyond the area established as an exclusion zone.
Likewise, they highlight from the Canary Islands Executive, vibrations and detonations can occur.
