The Parliament of the Canary Islands has urged this Wednesday to carry out a market study on hydrocarbons in the islands of Lanzarote and Fuerteventura in order to verify if the market conditions support the bonuses to the final price of fuel in these islands.

The deputy of the Canarian Nationalist group Oswaldo Betancort has defended the proposal and pointed out that "the Canary Islands are in the hands of four oil operators and this results in limited competition that has effects on the behavior of economic development".

The non-law proposal, which has had the favorable votes of the entire plenary except for the PSOE and NC that have described it as a "charade" and that "only intends to confuse", indicates that the high increase in the price of fuels in the Canary Islands has been an element that has contributed in recent years to hinder the competitiveness of the islands' economy.

Oswaldo Betancort, who has taken the opportunity to applaud the decision of the Government of the Canary Islands to subsidize 20 cents per liter of fuel on the green islands, has insisted that an analysis be carried out for the subsidization of fuel in Lanzarote and Fuerteventura so that aid can be extended to these islands.
