The Parliament of the Canary Islands opens the debate on the demographic challenge and aging with a new videopodcast

The Parliament of the Canary Islands premiered this Thursday a new installment of its institutional videopodcast, hosted by the President of the Chamber, Astrid Pérez, in which representatives from all parliamentary groups participated to analyze one of the great challenges facing the Archipelago: demography and population aging.

Under the title "Demography and aging: the challenge of the Canary Islands of the future," this new space brought together representatives from the parties with a presence in the Chamber to debate the main social transformations that the Canary Islands are experiencing and the necessary proposals to face their consequences.

During the meeting, issues such as the decline in birth rates, population aging, the difficulties of young people emancipating, access to housing, immigration, the sustainability of public services, dependency, mobility, and territorial planning were addressed.

In the opening of the program, Astrid Pérez highlighted that the Canary Islands are experiencing significant demographic changes that will condition the future of the islands and defended the need to promote spaces for reflection through parliamentary dialogue to seek shared solutions to these challenges.

The videopodcast featured Nayra Alemán, from the Socialist Parliamentary Group; Jana González, from the Canarian Nationalist Parliamentary Group; Juan Manuel Casañas, from the Popular Parliamentary Group; Esther González, from the Nueva Canarias-Bloque Canarista Parliamentary Group; Paula Jover, from the Vox Parliamentary Group; Jesús Ramos Chinea, from the Gomera Socialist Group Parliamentary Group; and Raúl Acosta, from the Mixed Group-Independent Herreña Group.

The videopodcast is structured into five thematic blocks dedicated to analyzing the demographic reality of the Canary Islands, housing and youth, immigration and public services, aging and dependency, as well as mobility and future challenges.

With this initiative, the Parliament of the Canary Islands continues to bet on new audiovisual formats to bring parliamentary activity closer to citizens, foster public debate, and promote participation on issues that will shape the present and future of the Archipelago.
