The Ministry of Universities, Science and Innovation and Culture has published this Wednesday the survey on equipment and use of ICT in households 2023 of the National Institute of Statistics (INE). The area directed by Migdalia Machín has captured this information in the Canary Observatory of Telecommunications and Information Society of the Canary Agency for Research, Innovation and Information Society (ACIISI).
The director of the Canary Agency for Research, Innovation and Information Society, Javier Franco, highlighted that "Canary Islands is the first CCAA in the use of ICT by the elderly population and is above the national average".
In 2023, 99.3% of Canarian households with at least one member aged 16 to 74 have a mobile phone, 96.6% have internet access (broadband), 81.3% have a computer and 66.4% have a landline phone.
Use of ICT by people aged 16 to 74
In 2023, the frequent use of ICT in the Canary Islands has increased: 96.2% of Canarians regularly access the internet, 89.5% use the internet daily and 43.8% make purchases regularly through the internet (in the three months prior to the time of the survey).
Use of ICT by minors
The habitual use of ICT by the child population (from 10 to 15 years old) in the Canary Islands reaches 91.3% in the case of computers, 93.2% in the case of the internet and 69.9% in the availability of mobile phones in 2023.
Use of ICT by the elderly
Regarding the elderly population (over 74 years old) in the Canary Islands, in 2023, 55.8% regularly access the internet, 38.8% do so daily, and 6.1% made purchases online in the last twelve months.
