The Juan de Mariana Institute, an ultra non-profit association, honored Argentine President Javier Milei in Madrid last week. This institute "is a shareholder" of the University of the Hesperides, a newly created private university based in the province of Las Palmas, according to revealed ElDiario.es.
In addition, it offers a neoliberal summer course in the town of Puerto del Carmen, in Lanzarote, in which it will offer talks such as "Woke Culture and soft totalitarianism" or "University course on Anti-Marx”. The University of Las Hespérides is directed by Gabriel Calzada, who is also the founder and president of the Juan de Mariana Institute.
This tribute to Milei took place in the midst of a diplomatic conflict, which arose after the far-right's previous visit to Spain and after a scuffle with the President of the Government of Spain, Pedro Sánchez.
Along with the president of the university, Gabriel Calzada, his father, the tourism businessman and former shipowner Gabriel Calzada Fiol, and his sister, Inés Calzada Álvarez, are also on the board of directors. In addition, as “dean of the undergraduate school” is another former director of Juan de Mariana, the economist Juan Rallo.
Another member of this university is the architect and doctor in Economics Gonzalo Melián, who appeared a few days ago in the Parliament of the Canary Islands, at the request of Vox, and assured that tourism is "super sustainable" in the Canary Islands.
