Senegal commits to speeding up the delivery of documentation for minors under guardianship in the Canary Islands

The Senegalese consul, Mamadou Lo, has conveyed to the Minister of Social Welfare, Equality, Youth, Childhood and Families, Candelaria Delgado, his commitment to seeking solutions so that the minors under the care of the Canary Islands "have their documentation as soon as possible".

Both have held a meeting, which the Canary Islands Government reports on this Friday, in which they analyzed the possibility of expediting documentation for the minor migrant population as well as strengthening cultural ties and collaboration between the Canary Islands and Senegal in matters of care for these children.

Following the meeting, Delgado emphasized the importance of collaboration between both administrations in order to expedite and facilitate the process for migrant minors from Senegal under the care of the Canary Islands executive to "obtain the necessary documentation to reside in Spain".

Initiatives to maintain cultural connection

In addition, both agreed to develop initiatives so that Senegalese girls and boys housed in centers maintain their **cultural connection with their country of origin**.Candelaria Delgado also highlighted the need to strengthen international collaboration projects in countries of origin, such as the Tierra Firme project, through which the Government of the Canary Islands develops employment training and socio-labor insertion initiatives, particularly aimed at young people at risk of exclusion in countries like Senegal, Gambia, or Mauritania.

The Consul General of Senegal, Mamadou Lo, accompanied by Deputy Consul General Mama Diedhiou and Honorary Consul Katia Van Bokel, thanked them for the meeting and highlighted the efforts of the Canary Islands in the care and guardianship of Senegalese migrant minors, as well as the efforts of the Government of Senegal "to prevent loss of human lives at sea."
