People from all over the Archipelago use the Gomera whistle to call the population to participate in the demonstration against mass tourism and to demand a change of model, called for this April 20 in seven of the eight Canary Islands.
In the case of Lanzarote, the demonstration will depart at 12:00 noon from the Music Kiosk of Arrecife in the José Ramírez Cerdá Park. In a video accessed by La Voz, which begins with one of the characteristic concrete skeletons of the Canary Islands landscape, the protagonists travel throughout the Archipelago, while summarizing the reasons that lead them to take to the streets.
The images include characteristic elements of the Canary Islands, such as the cardonal tabaibal, traditional Canary balconies, Guanche sculptures, Canary palm trees or large tourist constructions, blocks of apartments and hotels that stain the landscape.
"Because the Canary Islands have a limit, we will see you next April 20 in the streets of the Canary Islands in a historic call to defend our land, the moment is now", they began the call.
"Yes to stopping speculation! Yes to the distribution of wealth! Yes to the Canary tourist moratorium! Yes to the ecotax! Yes to a change of model that puts people and our nature first!", they continued.
To conclude, the video named all the participating islands "from Lanzarote, from Fuerteventura, from La Palma, from Gran Canaria, from La Gomera, from El Hierro, from Tenerife, Canary Islands".
