The president of the Socialist Parliamentary Group, Nira Fierro, highlighted this Thursday in the Debate on the State of Canarian Nationality of 2026, the resolution proposals presented by the socialists, where she harshly criticized the management of the regional Executive and accused it of having turned the legislature into “a government for others to govern”.

Fierro lamented that the debate once again reproduces the same scenario as in previous years, with an Executive that, in his opinion, "evades responsibilities and seeks culprits outside of the Canary Islands".

In that sense, he denounced that the autonomous Government of CC and PP has turned Canarian politics into a constant exercise of pointing fingers at third parties, whether to the Government of Spain, to the city councils, or to certain economic sectors. “After so many control sessions to the Government of Spain, I hoped that finally we would talk about what really corresponds to us: the autonomous competencies and the problems of the Canary Islands,” he affirmed.

However, he/she denounced that the Executive presided over by Fernando Clavijo has opted for a strategy of confrontation permanent and of lack of management, and accused the Government of “lying and failing to comply” in key matters of the legislature.

In this vein, he recalled the “fraud” with the dependency data reported a year ago, as well as the management of healthcare waiting lists or the unfulfilled commitments in fiscal matters. According to what he stated, the regional Executive has also broken its word on issues such as the possible implementation of a tourist tax or the management of the housing emergency.

Fierro assured that Canarias is currently experiencing a “housing catastrophe” that the Government has been unable to address, and recalled that the declaration of a housing emergency has not had tangible results while the rental price continues to rise.

For this reason, it reproached the regional Executive that it refuses to apply measures that state legislation allows to limit rental prices.

Likewise, he/she criticized that the Canarian Government has not contributed its own funding to programs such as the youth rental voucher, despite the fact that the community has “record collection and income.” “There is nothing worse than a manager who can act and does not do so out of pure political tantrum,” he/she stated.

In healthcare matters, Fierro denounced the contradiction between the budget increase and the situation experienced by the hospital centers of the Archipelago, and referred to problems such as the collapse in emergencies or the deterioration of hospital infrastructures to highlight what he described as “the two sides of the same coin: more budgetary resources but a system that continues to show serious shortcomings”.

The president of the Socialist Group also criticized the management of the Clavijo Government in social policies, especially in dependency.

As he explained, the Executive has generated “a model based on the degradation of the public sector” which ends up opening the door to the privatization of essential services, and also criticized the labor conflicts in areas such as social welfare or public radio and television.

Realistic and achievable proposals from Canarias for Canarias

Faced with this situation, Fierro presented the Socialist Group's resolution proposals as a set of measures “realistic and achievable from the Canary Islands for the Canary Islands”, and among them he cited the need to strengthen housing policies, improve healthcare, approve a new socio-health infrastructure plan and develop a strategic map of social services.

The president of the Socialist Group also advocated for strengthening educational policies, complying with the funding foreseen in the educational law, and guaranteeing resources for students with specific educational support needs.

Likewise, she demanded an urgent plan against sexist violence and greater commitment to equality policies.

Fair and progressive fiscal policy: relief for the shopping basket

In the economic sphere, he/she/it called for a "fair and progressive" fiscal policy, criticizing the elimination of tax deductions aimed at alleviating the cost of the shopping basket for working families.

Improvement of wages with an own employment strategy

Also asked the Government for its own employment strategy that improves salaries and reduces job insecurity in the archipelago.

Fierro assured that the Canary Islands does not deserve “a government that gives up leading the present and future of this land,” and defended that the Socialist Party will continue presenting proposals to improve the lives of the citizenry.

“Against their chaos, our proposals; against looking for enemies outside, courage in management. Let's talk about the Canary Islands,” concluded.
