The Minister of Youth and Childhood, Sira Rego, will travel this Wednesday and Thursday to Lanzarote, coinciding with the year that has passed since the Foreigners Law was reformed so that all autonomous communities would share the effort in the reception of immigrant minors.
As reported by sources from her department, the minister will address the situation of the reception system in the Canary Islands during her visit, which has been decongested after that reform.
In this way, according to Rego, "solidarity between the different territories of the country has been guaranteed, the situation of the reception systems in the arrival territories has been improved, and most importantly: the rights of children have been guaranteed".
The head of Youth will also address in Lanzarote the implementation of the European Pact on Migration and Asylum, especially regarding the possibility of legal representation for unaccompanied immigrant children and adolescents.
To this end, the minister is scheduled to meet with the Bar Association of Lanzarote.
In addition, she will hold a meeting with the president of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, Oswaldo Betancor, and with the Canary Islands Platform for Inclusive Education.
During Thursday, the head of Youth and Childhood will have a meeting with the Youth Council in the Canary Islands, with the aim of understanding the specific demands of young people on the islands and reporting on the progress of the Youth Law.
In addition to this, she will visit a Temporary Center for Foreigner Attention in Lanzarote.
