The Ministry of Health of the Government of the Canary Islands has confirmed an error in the PCR tests carried out on the island of El Hierro, which led to an alleged massive outbreak, so of the 64 initial positives detected, they are reduced to just one after a second analysis of the tests.
This was indicated by the president of the Cabildo, Alpidio Armas, who wanted to convey a message of tranquility by virtue of the information he received from sources of the Ministry, as a result of the high increase in the number of infections on the island that made the alarms "go off".
Alpidio Armas explained that, after a second analysis of the tests, everything indicates that there was a contagion in the sample taking process due to the high viral load of one of them that tested positive and contaminated the rest, which have finally tested negative.
Armas regretted that these types of things happen, but admits that it usually happens when a massive screening is done, which leads to a "relaxation" of controls, or due to the viral load of a patient, which is what has happened on this occasion.
The president emphasized that "no one is immune to the virus and that self-protection measures cannot be relaxed, such as the use of approved masks, hand washing and maintaining social distance."
