The Ministry of Ecological Transition and Energy of the Government of the Canary Islands, led by Mariano H. Zapata, has published a new call for aid worth 30 million euros aimed at promoting renewable electricity generation, self-consumption and decarbonization of the archipelago. This subsidy is part of the Strategy for Sustainable Energy in the Canary Islands of the Next Generation Funds.
The area's councilor, Mariano Hernández Zapata, highlighted that "this new package of aid reinforces the Ministry's commitment to the energy transition, facilitating access to renewable energies and improving efficiency in key sectors, such as the industrial and residential sectors."
Zapata explained that "these subsidies will be channeled through two fundamental programs whose objectives are to promote shared self-consumption, the development of energy communities and the decarbonization of the industrial sector, allowing the integration of renewable energies and the improvement of energy efficiency in production facilities."
Therefore, according to the councilor, the aid may be used for "projects for the installation of renewable energies, energy storage and improvements in the efficiency of energy consumption in residential buildings and industrial facilities."
Along the same lines, legal entities and natural persons may benefit from this subsidy, including natural persons who carry out economic activity and those who do not carry out economic activity but do carry out collective self-consumption, Canarian public entities and administrations, Canarian local entities and the institutional public sector of any Canarian Public Administration, provided that they act within the framework of public-private collaboration, renewable energy communities and citizen energy communities, energy service companies or energy service providers, as well as communities of property, irrigation communities and communities of owners or groups thereof.
The call, published on April 10, 2025 in the Official Gazette of the Canary Islands, establishes an application period that begins the day after its official publication and ends 3 months later, on July 11. Likewise, the completion date of the actions must be before March 15, 2026. The bases of the subsidy can be consulted through the following link:
Zapata also took the opportunity to recall the shock plan launched by the Ministry to speed up the execution of these European funds, with the aim of accelerating the energy transition of the archipelago and that "is giving very good results", assuring that "we have already committed more than 45% of the budget" to which is added the call for these new aid.
