The President of the Canary Islands, Fernando Clavijo, addressed this Friday with the president and founder of Messengers of Peace, Father Ángel, the humanitarian drama experienced by the islands and which, according to forecasts, could worsen from September when the highest peaks are recorded in the arrival of boats from Africa.
In a meeting at the headquarters of the Presidency of the Government of the Canary Islands in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, President Clavijo acknowledged "the involvement and commitment of Father Ángel and Messengers of Peace with the Canary Islands from the first minute of the declaration of the social emergency", not only in the crisis linked to unaccompanied children but also with "specific actions" in the area of formerly protected minors once they reach the age of majority and leave the reception system.
Precisely in this context, Father Ángel made a call for "awareness" to face a challenge that "is not from the Canary Islands or Spain, it is global" and established a parallel with Lampedusa when ten years of the humanitarian crisis on the Italian island are completed.
