The Ministry of Health of the Canary Islands has reported a total of 46 positive cases of COVID-19 at present, among which there are 15 hospitalized and, among them, two in intensive care, after detecting 18 new cases in one day. In addition, another five cases have already been cured.

By islands, Tenerife has registered 31 positive cases - plus three discharges - in Gran Canaria there are 12 active cases, one case in Fuerteventura and two in La Palma. There are also two cases discharged in La Gomera.

For its part, the Ministry has designed a series of initial measures in order to maintain the autonomous community in the situation of containment of the virus that currently exists. For this reason, citizen collaboration is requested to, among all, protect our population.

Thus, visits to hospitalized patients in all hospitals of the Canarian Health Service are prohibited, except in the case of patients who are minors, patients with deficiencies or elderly people who require a companion, as well as those cases in which, exceptionally and justified, a companion is authorized by the management of the center.

In these cases, the managing center must take extreme information and preventive measures to ensure that companions comply with the instructions established in the applicable protocols.

Accompanying patients who go to the emergency services of the centers and services dependent on the Canarian Health Service is also prohibited, unless the patient is a minor or cannot fend for themselves and requires the company of another person, in which case only access by a single companion will be allowed.

These restrictions are established for a period of 15 days, unless new epidemiological reasons advise their extension.

Information lines

The Ministry of Health maintains a free telephone line (900 112 061), from which a nursing team, under the coordination of the Canarian Emergency Service (SUC), will attend to requests for information from citizens on prevention measures, possibilities of contagion and false concepts related to the virus.

In addition, it is recalled the importance of people who consider that they may have symptoms related to the coronavirus (cough, sore throat, fever and sensation of shortness of breath) and who have returned in the last 14 days from any of the risk areas or state related to someone who comes from those points, contact 1-1-2, avoiding going directly to Primary Care centers or Hospital Emergencies.

Through this channel, the extraction of samples will be managed at home, although the population is also asked to use this resource rationally and only when the above conditions are met.

Finally, these lines received 2,512 calls this Wednesday; of which 2,222 were on the information line and 290 on the 112 line. In total, 9,246 calls have been received, of which 7,478 have been to the 900 line and 1,768 to the 112 line.
