The president of the Canary Islands, Fernando Clavijo, said this Wednesday that the "reset" or reflection on the development model of the Canary Islands that has opened after the demonstrations of April 20 comes "at a good time", because the economy is growing and improving faster than in the rest of Spain.
Clavijo, in statements to the media after attending the inauguration of the Regional Exhibition of Flowers, Plants and Traditional Canarian Crafts, insisted that, as was made clear at the Conference of Presidents, the institutions are working because they see "the same as the citizens" and are aware of their demands.
The advance of the Canarian GDP in the first quarter shows that "tourism is doing well, the economy is doing well and little by little we hope that construction will start, especially that of protected housing".
The Government of the Canary Islands, all the councils and all the political forces want that economic progress to "be democratized, reach society and increase disposable income", he said.
"We have to ensure that the effects of the economy reach the population and translate into higher family income, higher wages and greater well-being, that is the challenge in which we were conjured" at the Conference of Presidents, he said.
Regarding the end of the hunger strike by the activists of Canarias se Agota, the Canarian president said that they are personal decisions and that he respected them when they began and respects them when they end.
