The president of the Canary Islands Government, Fernando Clavijo (CC), reiterated this Saturday that he does not rule out setting an ecotax despite the fact that the vice president of the Executive, Manuel Domínguez (PP), assured this Friday that "there will be no tourist tax".

"It is true that the ecotax is not in the government program, but it is also true that we are willing to talk, the government will always dialogue," Clavijo told the press in statements prior to the celebration of the island convention of CC in Gran Canaria.

Clavijo has indicated that the Canarian Coalition and its government partner share the need to review the tourism model and that, to this end, they have called a conference of presidents on April 30.

"It is a successful model that has generated a lot of employment and a lot of wealth, but it is also true that we have to continue improving it," he declared, pointing out that it is not enough for them to continue counting tourists and air seats.

"We have to delve into the added value, the increase in turnover, profit and wealth, therefore, all of that will be discussed without any kind of taboo," he concluded.

Already on April 10, in the plenary session of the regional Parliament, the Canarian president declared that he is "not closed" to discussing the viability of applying an ecotax for tourists in the archipelago.
