Clavijo assures that the Government is working to modify the tourism model but "there are no magic wands"

"But if someone believes that there are magic wands and formulas that solve everything from one day to the next, I think they don't live in the real world, what needs to be done is to work together, not against anyone, but in favor of the Canary Islands," he says

The President of the Canary Islands, Fernando Clavijo, has assured that his Government is working on the possibility of modifying aspects of the tourism model that harm the population of the islands, but there are no "magic wands or formulas that solve everything from one day to the next."

Clavijo was referring to the protest held this weekend in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, in which some 300 people demanded that limits be placed on mass tourism in front of the hotel where a convention of a German tour operator was being held.

The Canarian president recalled that the conference of island council presidents has met twice to address the issue and a document has been drawn up with a series of measures, many of them reflected in the 2025 budget.

In addition, "we have opened a space for all those who want to contribute and want to participate with their reflections to do so."

The Government, the island councils and the town councils, social and economic organizations "are working together on this improvement," he added, and "we are in a process of reviewing the regulations of the territory precisely to make it more respectful."

"But if someone believes that there are magic wands and formulas that solve everything from one day to the next, I think they don't live in the real world, what needs to be done is to work together, not against anyone, but in favor of the Canary Islands," said Clavijo during a visit to the CO2 capture and reuse plant of the Carburos Metálicos factory in Gran Canaria.
