The Ministry of Tourism, Industry and Commerce of the Government of the Canary Islands has closed an agreement with AXA Spain for the subscription of a travel assistance policy applicable to all tourists traveling to the Islands, whether foreign or national, and in order to respond to incidents related to Covid-19, including the need to extend stays due to quarantines.
The agreement was signed by the regional minister Yaiza Castilla, on behalf of the public company Promotur Turismo de Islas Canarias, of which she is the CEO, and the company AXA Seguros, represented in the act by the director of the Canary Islands Zone, Auxiliadora Expósito, and Enrique Fernández, representing EM7 Gestión de Riesgos and AXA agent.
"The Canary Islands thus becomes the first Spanish Autonomous Community in which tourists will have travel assistance coverage with guarantees of medical expenses, sanitary repatriation and extension of stays due to quarantine related to Covid-19, to comply with a mandatory confinement due to a positive result. All this, as long as it is not known prior to the trip, as stated in the conditions of the insurer's policy," they emphasize from the regional Executive.
With the subscription of this policy, in the words of Yaiza Castilla, "the Canary Islands are moving even further in their commitment to reinforce and increase the safety and tranquility of tourists." In addition, Turismo de Canarias and AXA España agree in pointing out that "this travel assistance insurance constitutes a further attraction of the destination, which already stands out for its health security, for those people who are currently deciding where to spend their holidays."
As a result of this agreement, the insurer AXA will provide the Government of the Canary Islands with an exclusive telephone line to attend to any circumstance related to this policy. The protection of tourists, both from the peninsula or the islands and foreigners, is effective from this week and will initially be valid for 12 months, excluding circumstances known before the start of the trip and under the conditions set by the policy.
