The Ministry of Universities, Science and Innovation and Culture of the Government of the Canary Islands has published the third provisional resolution of the call for university scholarships corresponding to the 2024/2025 academic year. This new resolution incorporates 3,797 managed applications, which are added to the two previous definitive resolutions to reach a total of 10,809 processed files.

This third provisional resolution manages grants for an amount of 3,078,422.06 euros. With this, the Government of the Canary Islands has already allocated a total of 6,715,179.08 euros to the university scholarship program for the 2024/2025 academic year, adding all the resolutions published to date.

The program includes grants aimed at covering academic fees and supporting students with expenses associated with their education, such as accommodation, transport, especially complex economic situations (compensatory grant) and needs arising from functional diversity. Public universities concentrate the majority of applications: the University of La Laguna (ULL) with 4,343 files and the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (ULPGC) with 4,385. In addition, 2,010 applications have been processed corresponding to students studying outside the islands.

In this phase of the procedure, and in accordance with the provisions of the regulatory bases of the call, the mechanisms will be activated to expand the scope of the
grants based on the available credit. Firstly, the reduction of academic requirements is contemplated up to a maximum of ten percentage points for those
applications whose family income is below threshold 1, thus allowing access to all scholarship modalities.

Secondly, the income thresholds are extended up to a maximum of 2,000 euros; a measure with which only the tuition fee scholarship can be granted. The beneficiaries of this extraordinary call will be communicated in the next definitive resolution.

Councilor Migdalia Machín has stated that "the commitment to equitable access to higher education is reflected in the firm will of this Government to support
economically the students of the islands, especially those who, due to residing in less populated islands, must face greater difficulties to study and continue their studies".

"The General Directorate of Universities and Research continues to work to improve the times and efficiency of processing, attending to the needs of
planning of academic centers and the students themselves," he declared.

After notification through the electronic headquarters, applicants have ten calendar days to open the notification and, from that moment, ten business days to present allegations or correct documentation. During this period, they may consult the status of their file and provide the necessary documents through the same electronic channel.
