The Canary Executive has expressed this Thursday its solidarity with Ceuta in the face of the situation caused in the city by the entry of thousands of migrant people through its border with Morocco and has demanded that the Government of Spain "promote without further delay a solution that must be shared".
"When a border experiences extraordinary pressure, the response must be from the entire State. And, when that border is also a border of Europe, it is essential that the EU continues to be involved with resources, cooperation, and a migration policy that combines humanity, security, and shared responsibility," he assures.
The Government chaired by Fernando Clavijo has expressed itself in these terms through the deputy minister Octavio Caraballo, who emphasizes that what is happening in the autonomous city "is not a problem of Ceuta: it is a challenge for the State and also a European challenge."
The deputy minister recalls that the Canary Islands "know this reality well" - for years it has been the main entry route to Spain for immigrants by sea - and has long called for "no border territory to have to face a structural phenomenon, such as migration, alone."
"What we have always asked for the Canary Islands, we ask for Ceuta today as well. That is why we join the call to the Government of Spain to promote without further delay a response that must be shared, coordinated, and based on institutional co-responsibility," says this spokesperson for the Canary Executive.
Caraballo concludes that "the Canary Islands will always be by Ceuta's side," because "solidarity cannot depend on the territory or the acronyms of whoever governs: it must always be applied and without excuses."
