The president of the Parliament of the Canary Islands, Astrid Pérez, received a representation of associations from the Ukrainian community in the Canary Islands, with a special presence of women who wanted to convey their reality after the start of the war conflict in Ukraine.

During the meeting, they explained the situation that many families are experiencing, marked by forced single parenthood, as spouses remain in their country due to the war. A circumstance that is generating significant social, economic, and emotional challenges for those who have had to rebuild their lives on the islands.

The president of Ukrainians in the Canary Islands, Olesya Lylak, pointed out that currently about 8,000 Ukrainian people reside in the Canary Islands, a figure that has tripled since the start of the conflict, which reflects the direct impact of the war on the archipelago.

The visit aimed to give visibility to this reality and open avenues for institutional dialogue to continue advancing in support and recognition of the Ukrainian community on the islands.
