A father and son who were sailing in a zodiac found the body of a man of sub-Saharan origin floating off the coast of Morro Jable, in the south of Fuerteventura, yesterday morning. The Civil Guard has opened an investigation to determine the causes of death and where the body came from. Initial hypotheses suggest that it could be a migrant who tried to reach the Archipelago by boat and fell into the sea between four and five days ago due to the state of decomposition it presented. Maritime Rescue continued yesterday the search for two small boats that supposedly left the Sahara several days ago bound for the Islands.
The discovery occurred when the two people in a recreational boat alerted Fuerteventura Emergencies of the sighting one mile from the Morro Jable lighthouse, in the municipality of Pájara, of a corpse that was floating and that according to initial information it was a woman. They in turn gave notice to Maritime Rescue, which mobilized the Salvamar Mizar. Agents of the Judicial Police of the Civil Guard also joined the ship to begin the investigation into the corpse.
