A reader has contacted La Voz to report the poor condition of many of the trees located in the Parque José Ramírez Cerdá in Arrecife.

As can be seen in the images sent to this newsroom, a plague of a species of white cochineal scale is affecting the trees, making their leaves look white. "It's a shame that the few trees in the city are sick," criticizes the resident.

In addition, this problem also affects other areas of the city such as some of the trees on Fred Olsen Avenue. This causes the paving stones on the sidewalk to be stained black when branches or leaves fall to the ground due to the viscosity of this pest

The Councilor for Gardens, Roberto Herbón, explained to this publication that "all over the island many trees have mealybugs due to the lack of rain since April and the dust, so we have to fumigate and wait a week to do it again, and finally, use pressurized water on the leaves to get it out."

In this regard, he points out that from the Area "they can't cope with so much". He also noted that when the stage was set up in José Ramírez Cerdá Park, one of the trees was pruned on the sides and **it was used to fumigate** all the trees in the area, as well as on Hermanos Zerolo street.
