More than a dozen motorhomes dawned a few days ago in the old Rofera de Teseguite, in the municipality of Teguise. This space, which has become popular in recent years as a tourist spot, has now also become an improvised caravan parking lot.
According to what La Voz has been able to confirm, drivers with vehicles registered in other European countries and others with Spanish license plates have woken up in this natural space.
Despite there only being one motorhome parking available all year round in Lanzarote, there are other points on the island where it is common to see motorhomes parked.
Natural spaces and those close to the sea are usually common spots on the island where parked vehicles can be seen for several days. For example, caravans are often seen parked overnight on Famara beach or in Caletón Blanco, despite the prohibition of overnight stays in these areas.
At the same time, different websites promote on social networks tricks to spend the night in spaces such as the beaches of Papagayo or towns in the north of Lanzarote. Among them, they explain that you can park for 48 hours in different spaces, if no elements are deployed, black water is dumped, or noise is made.
The proliferation of caravans on the island occurs for two different reasons: gentrification that displaces locals and makes it impossible for workers to access affordable rentals; and European tourism that arrives on the island to spend a season in a caravan.
For the moment, the Ministry of Tourism of the Government of the Canary Islands initiated in June 2025 the public information process to regulate campsites and camping in the archipelago.
