Hammerhead shark spotted off the coast of Arrecife

The specimen was observed on Tuesday morning by a fisherman sailing in the sea

Shark sighted off the coast of Arrecife

A hammerhead shark has been spotted this Tuesday on the coast of Arrecife. It was a fisherman who captured the images while sailing, as La Voz has learned.

This species is considered vulnerable by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN). It is a large shark that can reach up to five meters in length, but usually measures up to three meters. Its name is due to the shape of its head, similar to that of a hammer.

Following this sighting, a citizen has warned of the damage caused by fishing this species and other types of sharks in the Canary Islands. "The animals are in their habitat and they are annihilating them," a reader told the newspaper.

It is not the first time that some type of shark has been located in Lanzarote. The island is an important area for the preservation of other shark species such as the angel shark.

The sea in Lanzarote

The waters of Lanzarote have been calm for days. In addition, the haze has been receding and is occasionally becoming regular during this Tuesday.

The forecast of the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) foresees slight waves or ripples increasing at the end to waves or slight waves until this Wednesday, January 31. The swell from the northwest of one or two meters, has predicted the Aemet.
