A reader residing in Costa Teguise has warned this Monday about a scam through Whatsapp. The woman has contacted La Voz to communicate the modus operandi in which the scammers act through the instant messaging application.
According to what was stated by the citizen, they use a false identity posing as "a friend" to access the list of personal contacts. Specifically, they send the person a message with a code, with which they enter the contacts of the phone and begin to impersonate said identity.
A cybercrime that aims to request bizums from all contacts with amounts that reach "up to 500 euros", she pointed out. "They impersonate the person in question and through a code, they end up getting the money", the woman stressed.
This is a hacking that has occurred nationwide throughout Spain, although here in Lanzarote there have already been several people affected. "Another girl in Tinajo also received the message", revealed the resident on the island.
After learning that it was a possible scam, the affected party reported the events to the Civil Guard, and wanted to go to the newspaper to warn the public. "It is necessary for people to be alerted to avoid any type of scam", she recalled.
According to what the woman said, it is still unknown if any Lanzarote residents have fallen for the scam, and have sent money through bizum after receiving the messages.
