A reader has contacted La Voz to report the situation she experienced two days ago with her son at the José Molina Orosa Hospital due to "the lack of a psychiatrist available 24 hours in the Emergency Room".
According to her, her son, who suffers from anxiety and depression, was referred to the hospital from the Titerroy Health Center after suffering an episode. "We were waiting for two and a half hours in a room and my son saw things he shouldn't have and they didn't call any psychiatrist on duty to attend to him when my son has intrusive thoughts," she criticizes. However, the Molina Orosa confirms that psychiatric service is guaranteed in the hospital."
Due to this, the woman is forced to go to private doctors so that the young man receives the necessary attention. In addition, she states that a doctor attended him who "did not prescribe any medication, they only gave him an injection and a pill under his tongue."
"They told me to wait for Psychiatry to call me within six months, what's the point of paying Social Security, then?" says the woman indignantly. "I ended up arguing with everyone and went to a nurse, very polite, who asked me if they hadn't called my son yet and they called us ten minutes later thanks to her," she says.
The mother concludes by saying that "if my son ever does something crazy, all hell will break loose here, because I don't think it's fair that all the money is spent on parties on an island where many young people need to see a psychologist."
