One of the carnival groups has contacted La Voz de Lanzarote to report the delay in the payment of subsidies granted by the Centers for Art, Culture and Tourism of Lanzarote (CACT).
According to Yonay Alonso, from the Los Yaiseros carnival group, the call for applications for these grants was opened last February, but they continue to wait for the deposit of this money despite eight months having passed.
Furthermore, he points out that "there are groups that have not been able to submit applications because they put up many bureaucratic obstacles". Thus, he points out that the administration asks for a large amount of documentation when "they should provide more facilities and be able to collect that subsidy".
The amount of these subsidies varies depending on the recipient. Adult and children's carnival groups, murgas, and batucadas receive 10,000 euros, while floats receive 4,000. For their part, drag queens benefit from 3,000 euros and carnival costume designers from 1,500.
Alonso also points out that a few days ago he contacted the Centers to ask when the payment would be made, but they assured him that "they still have to finish drafting the contracts and that when all of them are finished, a single payment will be made".
