Wastewater discharges are once again putting Arrecife's coast in the spotlight. Andrés Medina, a resident of the capital, has reported to the Local Police and to the Cabildo's Water Councilor, Domingo Cejas, the appearance of what he claims are sewage discharges directly into the sea in the La Punta del Camello area, next to the maritime avenue.
The neighbor has provided images showing a swirl of murky water that, he explains, coincides with the discharge of waste from the sewage system. Medina points out that this situation is not new and that episodes have been repeated in recent days without an official explanation being offered so far.
Concern is growing among residents as they recall that El Reducto beach has been closed to swimming for over a month and a half due to recorded pollution incidents. "It's incomprehensible that the beach remains closed and, even so, the uncontrolled dumping continues," laments the complainant.
Medina asks for an investigation into the exact origin of the leaks and for urgent action to curb the potential environmental impact on the coastline. He also requests that the administrations involved provide transparent information about the collector's situation and the measures planned to prevent wastewater from continuing to reach the sea
