El Zonzamas Plus Car Lanzarote took the island derby against CICAR Lanzarote Ciudad de Arrecife by 20-26 and secured passage to the next round of the Copa de la Reina. The "batateras" had to work to overcome a rival that dominated a good part of the first half, but they raised their level after the break, found greater fluidity in attack, and ended up imposing their rhythm to close a meritorious victory at the Pabellón Municipal de Titerroy.

The match began with great intensity and speed from both teams. The equality was maintained during the first minutes, with a 2-2 in the 6th minute, although Cicar Lanzarote took the initiative thanks to their greater speed and accuracy. Luna Vončina managed to tie at four in the 12th minute with a shot from the edge of the area, but Audilia Cafumo's performance prevented Zonzamas from taking the lead.

Offensive inaccuracies and a lack of accuracy in front of goal penalized the visitors. The home team widened the gap to 9-5 in the 22nd minute when Zonzamas was forced to call their first timeout. The "batateras" adjusted their defense and managed to slow down the capital team's attack for several minutes, although they still had difficulties in finishing their possessions.

With the score at 11-8 in the 29th minute, it was the home team that called a timeout. Zonzamas took advantage of the final stretch to close the gap, and a goal at the buzzer left the score at 11-9 at halftime, keeping the comeback options open.

The restart changed the course of the derby. The "batateras" came out hungry, and in the 33rd minute, Thalyta Cardoso scored the tying goal at 12, and just a minute later, she scored again to put Zonzamas ahead for the first time. With Alicia Robles providing security between the posts, the visitors found better solutions and increased their lead to 13-15 in the 41st minute, at which point San José called a timeout.

Zonzamas was going through its best minutes, but the home goalkeeper intervened again to prevent the "batateras" from opening a larger gap. Cecilia Colmenero, with a penetration, made it 14-17 in the 47th minute. The Lanzarote team showed increasing solidity in both phases of the game, and Marilia Correia extended the difference to 16-21 in the 52nd minute, the largest lead up to that point.

Sergio Hernández called a timeout with the score at 18-22 to organize the final minutes and manage the team's effort. Zonzamas maintained control and did not allow the home team to get back into the game. With greater offensive accuracy and more consistent defense than in the first half, the "batateras" extended their lead to the final 20-26.

The victory allows Zonzamas Plus Car Lanzarote to advance past the first round of the Copa de la Reina and win a derby that demanded patience, reaction, and effectiveness in the second half. The matchday was also marked by a minute of silence in memory of the victims of the train accident and by a tribute to Fran, the young "batatero" player who was celebrating his last chemotherapy session.
