El Zonzamas Plus Car Lanzarote was on the verge of earning their first points of the season after falling by the narrowest of margins (31-30) to KH-7 Granollers in the fifth round of the Liga Guerreras Iberdrola. The Lanzarote team put in a second half with character, even taking the lead on the scoreboard and maintaining their chances until the last possession, but the home team ultimately decided the match in a very tight finish.

The match began with an intense pace and great equality between both teams. Brenda Roger made it 2-2 in the 5th minute, in a start where the defenses had to work hard. However, Zonzamas' offensive inaccuracies allowed Granollers to open a small gap and take a 6-4 lead in the 11th minute. The Catalans' transitions began to cause damage, and while the "batatero" team had difficulty stopping their counterattacks, Alicia Robles kept the team in the game to prevent the difference from increasing.

Sergio Hernández called a timeout near the 17th minute, with the score at 8-6, and opted to advance the defense to a very deep 5:1 system. The adjustment paid off: Zonzamas recovered balls and found two opportunities to run which Gleinys Reyes converted to tie the score at eight in the 19th minute. The visitors' reaction forced Granollers to work for each attack again, although the Catalan team managed to regain a two-goal lead thanks to their effectiveness from the right wing.

The "batateras" did not stop insisting and found new solutions in attack. Luna Vončina equalized the match again, this time at twelve goals, in the 26th minute, which led the home coach to stop the game. The exchange of goals continued until halftime, which was reached with a minimal advantage for Granollers (16-15), after an intense and hard-fought first half.

After the break, Granollers came out strong and took advantage of the wings to extend their lead to 18-15 in the early stages. But Zonzamas did not falter and continued to press, forcing home team errors to stay in contention. The comeback took shape with two consecutive goals from Vončina, who leveled the score at 19 in the 37th minute. Shortly after, Gleinys Reyes converted a seven-meter throw to put the Lanzarote team ahead for the first time (19-20).

The potato-growing team then went through its best minutes, with greater control of possessions and fewer turnovers. However, Granollers found ways to get back into the game through their wingers and managed to restore parity. With the score balanced, Maria Monllor put Zonzamas ahead 24-25, prompting another local timeout with eleven minutes left in the game.

Shortly after, Sergio Hernández also called a timeout to organize the last eight minutes and manage the minimal advantage. Equality returned in the 55th minute, with a 27-27 tie, and physical fatigue began to take its toll on the visitors.

Two consecutive turnovers allowed Granollers to regain the lead and open a two-goal difference (30-28 in the 57th minute). Hernández used his last timeout, and Zonzamas resorted to a seven-player attack, emptying the goal to press their chances. Zaliata Mlamali reduced the deficit to 30-29, and the potato-growers pushed their defense even further forward to try and recover the ball.

With one player down and barely forty seconds left, Granollers called a timeout to prepare their final offensive. Zonzamas had one last opportunity to force a tie, but rushed their shot, and the match ended with a final score of 31-30.

The outcome once again left a bitter feeling in the Lanzarote team. As is often the case, Zonzamas competed until the last minute, was able to come back, and had real chances to get something positive, but ended up losing by the narrowest of margins. Two consecutive matchdays in which the team shows it can stand up to its rivals, although it still needs to convert that good work into points.

Despite the defeat, the evolution of the potato-growing team remains evident. The team continues to grow and show arguments to compete, but it needs that progression to be rewarded on the scoreboard. The next challenge will be to break this dynamic and turn good feelings into the first points of the season.
