El Zonzamas Plus Car Lanzarote suffered a tough defeat this Wednesday against AtticGo BM Elche in the match corresponding to matchday 12 of the Liga Guerreras Iberdrola, played at the Palacio de los Deportes de Arrecife, in the Argana neighborhood. The Elche team imposed its advanced defense, intensity, and effectiveness from the start to take the victory by 20-33 in a match with hardly any options for the home team
The match began with a cold and sluggish Zonzamas in attack, overwhelmed by the aggressive defense put up by Elche. The visitors struck first and soon took the lead (1-3, min. 5), while the home team repeatedly ran into the opposing defense and their own lack of precision. Agustina López broke the scoring drought from nine meters, but the local team missed two seven-meter shots, a circumstance that ended up undermining their confidence. The third penalty did find the net, converted by Gleinys Reyes (4-6, min. 14:40).
The Elche, very confident in all phases of the game, found the goal with ease against a local defense that was not very forceful. Juan Rivera called a timeout in the 19th minute (6-9), but the script did not change. The visitors made no mistakes and defended each action with maximum intensity, while Zonzamas remained stuck in attack. At halftime, the score reflected a decisive 8-15, which left the match very uphill for the Lanzaroteñas
After the break, the dynamic did not change. Zonzamas continued to struggle to find offensive solutions, and Elche took advantage of every turnover to punish them on the counterattack, progressively extending their lead. The lack of precision in front of goal frustrated any attempt at a local comeback.
In search of alternatives, Zonzamas opted to attack with seven field players from the 38th minute (16-26), but the move came too late against a very organized opponent that did not slow down. The final minutes passed without changes in the script, with a home team lacking punch and a flat defense, facing a solid and effective Elche until the end.
The match concluded with a 20-33 scoreline, reflecting the visiting team's superiority and leaving Zonzamas in a delicate position in the standings, still unable to gain breathing room in the lower half. The Lanzarote team will close out the year and the first half of the season with a demanding trip to the neighboring island to face Rocasa Gran Canaria, in a new Canarian derby this Sunday, December 21st.
