The Spanish Underwater Photography and Video Championships will take place from September 12 to 17, 2023 in Puerto Calero in the municipality of Yaiza. This was reported in a press release by the Canarian Federation of Underwater Activities.
This event is organized by the Spanish Federation of Underwater Activities (FEDAS), the Canarian Federation (FEDECAS) and the collaboration of the Calero Diving Lanzarote Diving Center, all under the direction and coordination of the FEDAS Image Department. In this case, it is the 35th edition of the Underwater Photography Championship and the 24th of the Spanish Underwater Video Championship.
These editions will feature 22 photography teams, 13 video teams and a dozen diving teams from 14 Autonomous Communities, highlighting among the participants, the sports members of the Spanish Image Team, which is the world and European champion team in recent years. In addition, there are: captains, judges, commissioners and diving center staff, making a total of 98 people. The participants and members of the organization will be in Lanzarote the weekend before the Championship.
The places where the dives will take place are the following:
- Zone 1: Punta Tiñosa.
- Zone 2: Wrecks of Puerto del Carmen.
- Zone 3: Waikiki.
- Zone 4: Blue Hole
- As reserve dive sites: Quiquere Wreck and Richies Place.
This event, the most relevant of the extensive calendar of underwater activities of the Spanish Federation (FEDAS), has been running for 35 years and is followed closely by nearly 40,000 members, being a benchmark in the World Confederation of Underwater Activities (CMAS).
All of this puts Lanzarote in the media spotlight nationally and globally, as the Spanish Championship, given its attractiveness, implies the informative presence in the most specialized magazines in the sector: nationally, magazines such as Buceadores, Buceo a Fondo, Buceoword, Acusub, and internationally: Wetpxil, Underwater Photography Magazine, X-Ray Interntional Magazine, Scuba Magazines and Alerte Diver Us.
In addition to this event, there is the first Spanish Inclusive Underwater Photography Championship, an activity that allows to raise awareness in society and promote a culture of inclusion for those people who have physical, sensory or mental limitations in their autonomy.
