The football match between Unión Sur Yaiza and UD Lanzarote, which was held last Sunday, October 26, had to be stopped by the referees due to racist insults and beer being thrown at the linesman.

The linesman, of Hindu origin, received insults from some fans of the type "Hindu, son of a bitch." At that moment, the Local Police of Yaiza had to intervene to guarantee security and avoid major incidents.

As La Voz has learned, it was part of the UD Lanzarote fans who hurled these racist insults at the linesman, since they were wearing the club's jersey. In addition, one of the fans was taken off the field by the officers and they requested his identification.

Faced with these events, UD Lanzarote has published on its Facebook profile its rejection of this incident, "expressing its most firm condemnation of any act or manifestation of racism, xenophobia, discrimination or intolerance, both inside and outside the playing fields."

Thus, they have stated that "as a sports entity, we defend the fundamental values of respect, equality, coexistence, and fair play, essential pillars in the training of our players and in the representation of sports on our island".

Lastly, they stated that "football should be a space for unity and diversity, where all people, regardless of origin, color, religion, or culture, find a safe place to enjoy, learn, and grow."
