UD Lanzarote manages to snatch a point in the Annex against Las Palmas Atlético (1-1)

UD Lanzarote achieved a very important draw in the Annex of the Gran Canaria Stadium against Las Palmas Atlético, to whom Adolfo Pérez has taken the measure since last season when they drew 1-1 in the Juan Guedes of Tamaraceite. This Wednesday, October 12, the same score was repeated, in a match where Manolo Márquez's team had possession of the ball and the best options to achieve victory, but despite taking the lead with the goal from Tenerife native Erik Expósito in the 61st minute, they conceded the equalizer in the 75th minute in a local concentration error after a quick free kick taken by the Lanzarote team on Miguel Gómez and his cross on the left to the second post, was transformed into the equalizer by the Majorcan Borja Vera (who had been in the yellow subsidiary years ago).

Maximum effectiveness of Adolfo Pérez's team, who had cried out to the heavens for the missed opportunities the previous Saturday, for the lack of a goal-scoring center forward after Rosmen's serious injury in the second match and the departure of their top scorer Dani López to SD Tenisca at the end of the sixth match, alleging personal problems.

With this panorama, UD Lanzarote presented itself with the clear objective of working well defensively in a match that Las Palmas Atlético dominated from start to finish, although it is also true that they did not have clear chances during the 90 minutes, except for a few exceptions in which Carlos González could have put the Gran Canaria team ahead and three minutes before the equalizer, Fabio sent a ball to the crossbar defended by goalkeeper Alejandro Martín in the 72nd minute, which could have meant 2-0 to kill the match.

VARIATIONS IN THE STARTING ELEVENS. The coach of the yellow subsidiary Manuel Márquez surprised everyone by relegating Pablo Santana to the bench, until this Wednesday a fixed starter in the double pivot, so Fuli played in that position, who had already played from the start in Yaiza alongside Fabio González, who returned to the starting eleven after debuting ten days before against Arucas CF. The other variation with respect to the last starting eleven that played last Sunday in the south of Lanzarote was the entry of Carlos González for Juanma on the right wing.

For his part, Adolfo Pérez also made two changes with respect to the last starting eleven that had drawn 1-1 in Arucas. On the one hand, the return of Javi Betancort (who had been a substitute in Arucas) to the double pivot alongside Brad and the entry of Raúl Fernández, who was ill on Saturday in the city of flowers, with Marcos Cabrera dropping out of the starting eleven in midfield and Toñito on the right wing, which was occupied by Gran Canaria native Jorge Pulido, moving his position forward to allow Raúl Fernández to enter at full-back.

The yellows were dominant from the beginning, with a first attempt in a ball hung by Benito on the left wing over Carlos González that the Lanzarote defense took out from under the posts and another even clearer one after six minutes, after a penetration down the right wing by Diego Parras with a cross over the penalty spot, where Raúl Alemán shot low next to the left post of Alejandro Martín.

From there, the match became monotonous, with yellow dominance and moments of Lanzarote recovery, but without clear goalscoring opportunities, until in the 33rd minute, Fabio hung a ball over the second post, where the youth player Carlos González tried to finish with a volley and his shot went to the right of Alejandro Martín, who had to clear a subsequent cross-shot from Diego Parras in a corner kick taken to the left of the Lanzarote goal, which passed in front of it without finding a finisher in the 36th minute, reaching the break with the initial goalless draw.
At the beginning of the second half, it was Carlos González again who had the opportunity to open the scoring, after a ball into the area from Yeremi Valerón on the left wing that Carlos González finished in front of the small area in front of a cloud of players, his shot going to the right of Alejandro 8 minutes after the restart.

The first goal of the match came after the quarter hour, after the only defensive error in Adolfo Pérez's tactical framework, in a long ball that Fuli sent over the area, the ball staying with Tenerife native Erik Expósito, who entered from the left of the area, crossing the ball to the left of goalkeeper Alejandro.

The match was complicated for UD Lanzarote with the injury of Brad, who left the field limping, with Marcos Cabrera entering in his place, in a period in which they did not reach the opposite areas.

With the 1-0 on the scoreboard, few bet on the equalizer, especially when Fabio headed a ball inside the area that went to the crossbar in the 72nd minute, but only three later, UD Lanzarote extracted oil from its only offensive action of the entire match. Free kick that they take quickly on the left on the Gran Canaria native Miguel Gómez, who crosses to the second post where the Majorcan Borja Vera shoots with his left foot into the back of the net, next to the right post of Álex Guanche at medium height, in the 75th minute (1-1).

From here, UD Lanzarote was more experienced than the subsidiary and by heating up the match, they knew how to stop the possible yellow reaction. In the 83rd minute, a player from each team was sent off in front of the area of the Lanzarote team, Álex Suárez from Las Palmas Atlético and the former yellow Fran Gil from UD Lanzarote, which caused an interruption, which together with another subsequent one prevented the yellows from returning with danger to the Lanzarote goal.

There was only one action from Yeremi Valerón in the 85th minute, where after a cross from him the ball passed in front of the goal without finding a finisher, with the Lanzarote defense subsequently clearing and in the 91st minute, after a new cross from Yeremi over the penalty spot, the villager Benito headed badly against a defender, also not being successful in winning the subsequent rebound.

In the end, sharing of points with joy for UD Lanzarote - who remain undefeated away from the island of volcanoes, after adding a victory and four draws - and disappointment for the yellow subsidiary who stumble on the same stone again, adding their third draw of 5 matches played in the Annex of the Gran Canaria Stadium (CD Vera, 0-0; CD Marino and UD Lanzarote, 1-1), having won 5-0 against Buzanada and Arucas CF, 3-0.

Next Sunday, UD Lanzarote will receive the visit of third-placed UD Villa de Santa Brígida in their Sports City, who after winning 2-0 this Sunday against Arucas CF, together with the defeat of CD Marino against the new leader CD Cotillo (3-0), will present themselves on the island of volcanoes as the only team still undefeated in the category; while Las Palmas Atlético will visit Pan Pulido San Mateo who, despite breaking their streak of three matches without losing, being defeated 1-0 this Wednesday from the south of Lanzarote against Unión Sur Yaiza, as a local has won three of their four matches (Cotillo, 1-0; CD Santa Úrsula, 3-2 and CD Tenerife B, 1-0), conceding a draw against Unión Viera (1-1).
