UD Lanzarote ends Villa Santa Brígida's undefeated streak (2-1)

UD Lanzarote, the king of draws this season, broke its dynamic of tied matches in recent weeks and won 2-1 against Villa de Santa Brígida. Israel Quintana's pupils suffered their first defeat of the season at the Lanzarote Sports City, a circumstance that does not prevent them from being in privileged positions. Toñito put the locals ahead and Héctor Marrero equalized at the end of the first half. With two minutes remaining, Javi Melián scored the winning goal for UD Lanzarote.

The first minutes of the match were intense, with strong pressure exerted by both teams in the midfield. The dominance was alternating, with UD Lanzarote and Villa de Santa Brígida fighting to take control of the game. The first warning was given by UD Lanzarote in the 15th minute. Marcos Cabrera quickly took a free kick on the left vertex, Miguel entered the area and his crossed shot went close to the base of the post.

UD Lanzarote began to take control of the game as the minutes passed. The players of both teams were tough in defensive actions, actions that had to be punished by the referee with several yellow cards.

After the first half hour of the match, UD Lanzarote managed to take the lead. The locals executed a short corner kick, Toñito received the ball at the left vertex of the area and his powerful shot surprised goalkeeper Fermín. The ball went in like a howitzer inside the goal of Villa de Santa Brígida.

The locals claimed a penalty in the 37th minute. Jeremy won the back of the Villa de Santa Brígida defense, entered the area and fell in the presence of Kevin Padilla. Referee Rayco Marrero García gave continuity to the play and did not understand the defender's action as a foul.

Villa de Santa Brígida had several chances in the final stretch of the first half. In the 41st minute, Adrián, unmarked, headed a corner kick, sending the ball over the crossbar. And just three minutes later, Juanma Pérez with a powerful shot from the edge of the area tested Alejandro's reflexes, sending the goalkeeper to a corner kick.

In the subsequent corner would come the equalizing goal for Villa de Santa Brígida. Héctor Marrero headed the ball inside the area, beating goalkeeper Alejandro and establishing the tie. With the 1-1 score, the first half of the match came to an end.

The script of the match did not change much at the beginning of the second half, with two teams striving in the midfield. As the minutes passed, UD Lanzarote took control of the game, and especially in the final part of the match, they locked up their rival.

In the 79th minute, Krispy entered the area on the right wing, passed to Toñito and his shot did not find the three posts. Minutes later, it was Javi Melián who had the opportunity to unbalance the match, finding the good intervention of goalkeeper Fermín. In the continuation of the play, a header from Toñito was saved by Fermín, becoming the hero of his team.

So much goes the pitcher to the fountain that in the end it breaks and that is what happened in the 88th minute. A shot by Miguel Gómez from the edge of the area was deflected by Javi Melián, which confused goalkeeper Fermín and the ball would end up lodging in the back of the net. A goal that was celebrated in style by the player, breaking the bad streak he had this season.

The locals had to face the final stretch of the match with numerical inferiority, with Toñito being sent off in extra time with a double yellow card. Villa de Santa Brígida went for the tie and had it in the 94th minute. A shot by Álvaro from the edge of the area was met by Alejandro's hand, deflecting the shot to a corner kick.
