UD Lanzarote achieves a valuable draw against UD Las Palmas Atlético (1-1)

UD Lanzarote achieved a valuable draw in their visit to Juan Guedes de Tamaraceite, where they tied 1-1 against the leader Las Palmas Atlético, who continue to surpass them by one point in the standings, tied for first place with UD Villa de Santa Brígida after their victory in Los Cristianos, 1-4 over CD Marino. Therefore, the Lanzarote team falls to third place with 60 points, compared to the 61 of both Gran Canaria teams, losing two points of advantage with respect to the 5th classified CD Cotillo (53 points) who thrashed UD Ibarra 3-0, cutting two points from the fourth-placed SD Tenisca (57) who drew 1-1 in Virgen de Las Nieves against Unión Puerto.

Without a doubt, the best thing about the match for Adolfo Pérez's team was the result, since in terms of merits and opportunities, the yellows deserved the victory, despite playing with numerical inferiority for 70 minutes, after the expulsion of Jefté Betancort for an alleged headbutt on Fran Gil in the 20th minute of the match.

Adolfo Pérez, due to the significant absences he had in midfield due to suspension (Vladimir, Javi Betancort, and Toñito), surprised with an ultra-defensive approach, with a defense of five men, with three center-backs (Fran Gil, Falo, Ignacio), with Raúl and Miguel Gómez as full-backs, and Acai in front of the line of center-backs, with Marcos Cabrera more liberated in front and greater freedom for Mauri and Javi Melián dropping to the wings, with Rosmen as the most advanced man, although alternating his position with Mauri; while Mingo Oramas was faithful to his game system, 1-4-2-3-1.

Despite everything, Marcos Cabrera was the first to warn the Gran Canaria goalkeeper David Ramírez in the seventh minute of the game, in a free kick taken on the right wing that the goalkeeper of the Gran Canaria subsidiary stopped without major complications.

But the first clear dangerous opportunity came for the Gran Canaria side, after a corner kick taken by Manu Dimas to Agoney's right, which was rejected by the Lanzarote team, and on the rebound line, Pablo Santana enabled a ball to the left wing for Jefté Betancort, who dribbled past his marker and shot too wide, next to Agoney's left post in the 10th minute of the match.
Four minutes later, Manu Dimas could also have put Las Palmas Atlético ahead, after a penetration down the right, with an incursion into the area and his shot in front of Agoney's exit, he crossed it excessively, next to the right post of the Lanzarote goal.

Numerical superiority. In the 20th minute of the match, Jefté Betancort was sent off for an alleged headbutt on Fran Gil, after an initial provocation from the latter, in which the yellow number 11 was baited, and the referee, at the request of his assistant Adrián Hernández Sosa, sent off the left winger of Las Palmas Atlético, with which UD Lanzarote played 70 minutes with numerical superiority.

Despite everything, the yellow subsidiary continued to take the initiative in the game, with Manu Dimas having the possibility of putting the Gran Canaria team ahead in the 24th minute, after receiving a ball from Chus Sosa inside the area, and when he was about to shoot on goal, Falo took the ball off his boot to prevent the Sardina del Sur striker from shooting.

UD Lanzarote did not vary its game or approach despite the numerical superiority, with a defense of five at the back, Acai in front of them, and greater freedom for the four men in midfield going forward, but without ever worrying the local goalkeeper David Ramírez.

It was Agoney who was worried, who was about to be beaten by his teammate Ignacio, who after a cross on the left wing from Manu Dimas, finished on his own goal, a ball that went to a corner, adjusted to the right post of the Lanzarote goal after half an hour of play.

After the break, Adolfo Pérez also did not vary his approach, and it was Las Palmas Atlético who was about to score at the start of the second period, but Manu Dimas failed to finish a ball in front of goalkeeper Agoney by very little three minutes after the restart.

Mingo Oramas brought on Benito from Aldea, replacing Chus Sosa, who had played the first thirteen minutes of this half on the opposite wing with Borja Herrera, who played the second half on the right, after initially playing as a link-up player behind Manu Dimas, until Jefté's expulsion, from there to the end of the first act playing on the left wing.

In the twentieth minute, a goal was disallowed for Las Palmas Atlético, after a free kick taken by Benito from Aldea, on Fuli who was in an offside position, and five minutes later, it was again Benito who on the left wing put a ball on the second post for Borja Herrera, who turned to end up shooting next to the base of Agoney's left post with 70 minutes on the clock.

The first goal of the match came in the 74th minute, in a free kick next to the edge of the Lanzarote area, which Borja Herrera touched short for the captain and yellow central defender, Álvaro Arencibia, to slot the ball with a strong shot next to Agoney's left post at medium height. Thus, all the containment work carried out for 74 minutes was thrown to the ground, with the score rising to 1-0.

The goal gave wings to the yellows, who went decisively in search of the second goal, which Manu Dimas first had in his boots, which Agoney took to a corner on two occasions, and later Benito, tried it in a foul on the right side that also ended up taking the Lanzarote goalkeeper to a corner in the 78th minute and shortly after, an incursion by the right-back Sito towards the center, with a shot on the edge of the area, went high, very few centimeters over Agoney's goal in the 80th minute.

In the middle of the yellow gale, Adolfo Pérez brought on Kennedy, replacing Acai who had been the conejero stopper, changing the system to look for the equalizer. The blond rojillo player occupied the right wing, which had been orphaned until then, and that's where the play for the draw came from, in a throw-in on the right on Kennedy who crossed on the second post, where the Gran Canarian Miguel Gómez, equalized the contest against his former team, since he played two seasons ago in UD Las Palmas C of the Regional Preferente, coming from UD Teror and before his time at SD Tenisca last season. The full-back appeared on the second post to put his toe at medium height and place the definitive 1-1 on the scoreboard.

With the draw, Adolfo reinforced the midfield, with the entry on the field of Ayoze to form a duo with Marcos Cabrera in the containment zone, with Kennedy on the right and Javi Melián thrown to the left, until his substitution minutes later by Francis Hernández.

Mingo Oramas tried the equalizer, with the entry on the field of Matías Dumpiérrez for Borja Herrera exhausted by his work and already in the last play of the match, Óscar entered in place of Sito to look for the miracle of victory, taking advantage of his height in the corner kick prior to the end of the match, which only lasted two minutes, before the protests of the fans and local players.

Next Thursday, UD Lanzarote will receive the visit of 5th classified CD Cotillo at the Lanzarote Sports City at noon, one of the two teams that managed to win this season in the first leg match (3-1), which was the first defeat of the Lanzarote team, who would then lose five days ago in the Ciudad Deportiva de Geneto against CD Tenerife B (1-0). It will be an important match to increase their advantage and almost secure their qualification for the promotion play-offs, currently surpassing the Majoreros by seven points.
