After an outstanding performance in the XV Edition of the Eurochallenge, held from April 26 to 28 in Villajoyosa, the Marlines de Lanzarote Canoeing Club returns home with an important loot: two gold and two bronze medals. This Surfski World Cup brought together more than 200 high-level paddlers from all over the world. The regatta was held specifically on Saturday, April 27, where competitors had to paddle 22 kilometers, but the downwind conditions were quite good, providing an excellent opportunity to measure the performance and skill of our athletes under ideal conditions for paddling in surfski.
Ariadne Giménez and Eloy Woelke won two gold medals in the Absolute Mixed SS2 category. Despite a wrist injury suffered by Ariadne before the event, both gave a heroic performance, standing out for their exceptional synchronization and technique. Andrea Betancor and Alejandro Dorta added to the team's success with two bronze medals in the same category, showing the group's firmness and effort. In addition, Pedro Rodríguez and Andor Devora stood out with a fourth position in the Absolute Men's SS2, demonstrating their skill and commitment.
Beyond being a sporting challenge, this World Cup was an opportunity to strengthen ties between canoeists and show the sporting spirit that characterizes surfski. The Eurochallenge has proven to be a well-organized event and a crucial moment for our athletes to give their best performance before an international audience.
With these achievements, the Marlines are already preparing for their next big event: the XXIII Canary Islands Sea Kayak Championship, which will be held on May 11 at Playa de las Canteras, Gran Canaria. This event will be a true celebration for the club, as most of the paddlers will compete, from the youngest in the Marlines quarry to the most veteran. With more than 80 paddlers ready for action, the club is focused and motivated to excel in this championship.
