Three sailors from the Real Club Náutico de Arrecife complete the ILCA 4 European Championship

Unai de Ugarte placed 18th and was the fourth best Spaniard of the competition

The sailing team of the Real Club Náutico de Arrecife has been present in one of the most important events of the nautical calendar, with the participation of three Lanzarote sailors in the ILCA 4 European Championship. The international competition has taken place in the waters of the Mar Menor, in Murcia, with the presence of young promises of European sailing, showing the Lanzarote sailors their skill in the race course located next to the promenade of Los Alcázares. 

The expedition of the Real Club Náutico de Arrecife that participated in the European Championship of ILCA 4 was integrated by Guillermo Bravo de Laguna, Mateo Roa and Unai de Ugarte. Throughout the entire week of competition they were accompanied by Alejandro Bethencourt, performing the duties of coach for the three sailors. 

The ILCA 4 European Championship featured the participation of 256 sailors in the male category, the fleet being divided into different competition groups. The first three days were marked by strong wind conditions and at the midpoint of the competition the wind intensity dropped. Finally, the 12 races that the organization had programmed could be held, divided into six sailing days. 

The best result in the ILCA 4 European Championship was achieved by Unai de Ugarte, a sailor who finished the European competition placed 18th in the general classification and also being the fourth best Spaniard. Guillermo Bravo de Laguna qualified in 41st place overall. For his part, Mateo Roa finished the competition in 69th place, being the fourth classified of the silver group. 

The president of the Real Club Náutico de Arrecife, Julio Romero, and the Board of Directors wish to congratulate the three sailors for their magnificent performance in the ILCA 4 European Championship held in Murcia, showing once again their good work in the racecourse, leaving high the name of the club and of the sailing of the island of Lanzarote.
