Puerto Calero once again becomes a meeting point for sports fishing enthusiasts with the celebration of the XXXIII Puerto Calero Marlin Cup, one of the most traditional events of this modality in the Canary Islands.
The competition will feature boats from Lanzarote, Fuerteventura, and Gran Canaria, which during October 2nd and 3rd will face the challenge of locating and tagging specimens of blue marlin and white marlin, before returning them to the sea.
Tagging and releasing is one of the main hallmarks of the Puerto Calero Marlin Cup. A formula that allows maintaining all the excitement of sports fishing and, at the same time, contributing to the knowledge and conservation of these species.
The event will begin on October 1st with the skippers' meeting, while the fishing days will take place on October 2nd and 3rd. It will be on Saturday the 3rd, at the end of the competition, when the winners of this thirty-third edition will be announced.
An event with over three decades of history
Thirty-three editions later, the Puerto Calero Marlin Cup maintains its place as an essential event for sports fishing enthusiasts in the Canary Islands. Beyond the competition, it is also a meeting point for athletes from different islands and a celebration of the passion for the sea that has accompanied this event for more than three decades.
The crews will compete for important prizes, including the Gran Premio Cicar, Gran Premio Murimar – Líneas Romero, Navalia, and Salitre – Simrad, as well as other surprises that will complete the recognitions of this edition.
The XXXIII Puerto Calero Marlin Cup is sponsored by Turismo Lanzarote, Ayuntamiento de Yaiza – Área de Deportes, Cicar, Eresa, Maderas Marcial González, and Grupo Tiagua, and has the collaboration of Baleària, Hotel Costa Calero, Secret, Disa Mosaga, and Abrasamar.
Three days of competition, three islands represented, and the same passion for the sea, in a new edition of an event that is already part of the calendar and history of sports fishing in the Canary Islands.
