The world of motorsports in Lanzarote has been shrouded in mourning on Sunday, after the death of Antonio Suárez Barrera at the age of 45 was announced. The former rally driver died at the José Molina Orosa Hospital after failing to overcome the heart attack he suffered last Friday and which kept him hospitalized. A hard blow for the family of the former driver and the world of motorsports, losing a very dear person, which was evident in each of the automotive events he attended to support his son Toñín Suárez Jr.
Toñín Suárez was called to be one of the great rally drivers of the Canary Islands. At the controls of the Citroën Xsara Kit Car and Seat Córdoba WRC, he began to stand out in the automotive events of Lanzarote. In December 2004 he suffered a serious traffic accident that cut short his sports career, leaving him paraplegic and in a wheelchair.
