The Wine Run Kids brings together 250 children for a morning of sport, fun, and togetherness in Uga

The children's race opened the Wine Run Lanzarote weekend with high participation and gave way to the Wine Festival, which brought together locals and visitors around gastronomy, wine, and live music.

Prebenjamines

The town of Uga experienced a Saturday morning full of smiles, applause, and emotion with the celebration of the Wine Run Kids, the children's race that serves as a prelude to the Wine Run Lanzarote, in which two hundred and fifty boys and girls participated.

With a more festive than competitive atmosphere, and under the watchful eye of parents, around 11:00 AM the pre-benjamins were in charge of inaugurating the race with a 100-meter course, followed by the benjamins, who completed 200 meters, the alevines with a distance of 600 meters, and finally, the children, who faced a 900-meter course before crossing the finish line.

Amidst cheers and applause, children and young people wearing the official t-shirt of this edition, featuring the image of a guelf, in homage to a sector closely linked to Uga and the unique landscape of La Geria, crossed the finish line where they were met by the Councilor for Sports of Yaiza, Ángel Lago, along with members of the municipal government, and the Minister of Landscape and Food Sovereignty of the Cabildo de Lanzarote, Samuel Martín, to congratulate them personally and present them with their medals.

The Councilor for Sports of Yaiza, Ángel Lago, highlighted that "the high participation is a testament to the excellent work done throughout the year with the sports base of the municipality. Many of these children participate in our Municipal Sports Schools, where we promote healthy habits, coexistence, and the enjoyment of sports above results. Seeing them here today enjoying themselves is the best possible reward."

After the races concluded, the activity moved to the Uga fairgrounds with the Wine Festival, bringing together dozens of residents, visitors, and participants on its first day around a wide gastronomic offering from wineries, cheese dairies, and restaurants on the Island, accompanied by live music from the Parranda Pal Porrón, responsible for setting the first notes of the festive day.

The mayor of Yaiza, Óscar Noda, who has toured the different stalls accompanied by members of the government group to chat with the workers in the sector, emphasizes that “the Wine Run and the Wine Festival are much more than a sporting and festive event. They are a magnificent opportunity to give visibility to the work of our winegrowers, wineries, cheese dairies, and restaurants, which represent the excellence of Lanzarote's products. These meetings generate economic activity, bring the public closer to our producers, and contribute to highlighting the daily effort of those who help preserve the landscape and identity of La Geria”.

The party continued throughout the afternoon with musical performances by the group Sin Cobertura and a Queen Tribute, while hundreds of Wine Run participants approached the fairgrounds to collect their bibs for tomorrow's big event, where a good atmosphere and live music will once again accompany the finish line area, located in the town of Uga.
