Yeray Lemes and Oscar Cabrera lead the list of 31 teams
- The event to be held on Saturday, July 5, will once again feature the spectacular "El Cuchillo" section and the Citroen C3 Rally 2 as favorites.
- The public is restricted to a specially protected area near the Soo junction, where it will be forbidden to watch the event or park vehicles.
The Lanzarote Island Championship will continue on Saturday, July 5 with the thirtieth edition of the Tomás Viera Rallysprint, an event that will also be valid for the Las Palmas Championship of the specialty. A competition that has a list of participants of 31 teams and all from the island of Lanzarote. A highly anticipated event as always in the municipality of Tinajo and throughout the island, which features the timed section of "El Cuchillo" and the memory of the co-driver who gives the rallysprint its name, which will be valid for the Las Palmas Championship and the Lanzarote Island Asphalt Championship.
The registration is the usual number in the Island Championship events, this time with the presence of two Rally2 type cars, the Citroen C3 of Yeray Lemes and Aitor Cambeiro and that of Oscar Cabrera, this time co-driven by Andrés Carmelo Hernández. These will be the favorites for the first two places on the podium, with the third being very open, but where the BMW M3 of Alvaro Caballero and Noé González has recently been paying off. Their rivals will be José Yoday Betancort with the Peugeot 208 Rally4, the Citroen DS3 Max of Rayco Rodríguez or the Renault Megane Coupé of Oscar Curbelo, among others.
Among the novelties, the presence of Julia Betancort as driver of a Peugeot 206, with David Sánchez Verde as co-driver, leaving her frequent organizational and timing tasks in her CD. Manguia, for the experience of the steering wheel in this spectacular and unique section of Lanzarote.
The rallysprint program is focused on Saturday morning, based in the Yacomar socio-cultural center of La Vegueta (Tinajo), where the mandatory vehicle checks and delivery of documentation to the teams will take place from 9 to 11 am, as well as the final trophy presentation ceremony, around 5 pm.
The event starts at 12:30 pm with the first of the six sections, three in each direction of the route through "El Cuchillo" of 5.5 km. The total mileage in timed sections is 33 km.
The established trophies, in addition to the main ones for the final podium, are for the first of each category and the first of the groups for historical vehicles Pre 81, 90, 2000 and Classic.
At the moment, Toñín Suárez from Lanzarote leads the Lanzarote Championship standings with 85 points, ahead of his neighbor Yeray Lemes, who has 70 points. They are followed by Enrique Cruz and also Lanzarote driver Suso Lemes. Precisely Toñín will be the great absentee on this occasion.
The last edition was won by Yeray Lemes with his Porsche 911 GT3, with his niece Bárbara Lemes as co-driver. The second position on the final podium was for Óscar Cabrera-Aitor Cambeiro with Citroen C3 Rally 2 and Julián Falcón-Jacob Páez completed it, with Skoda Fabia R5.
Public restrictions for the Soo area
For the proper development of the event and to comply with the prohibitions of the protected places of the island for its archaeological and historical heritage, the organization of the CD. Evesport has decided to restrict the public and vehicle parking in a particularly sensitive area, following the guidelines of the Cabildo de Lanzarote. Therefore, the maximum collaboration of the public and fans is requested in complying with this rule, as well as the usual safety and environmental respect measures.
This part of the prohibited route belongs to the Protected Area of the Chinijo Archipelago Natural Park, so the public will not be able to be located in the delimited area near the town of Soo, from Caleta de Caballo to the house past one kilometer from the Soo junction.
