The 27th Isla de Los Volcanes Land Rally – Ciudad de Arrecife Trophy is approaching the most awaited moment, the start of the competition. Less than twenty-four hours separate the teams from the 'Ciudad de Arrecife' super special, which will be in charge of opening fire on the afternoon of this Friday, August 8, starting at 6:20 p.m. Before that moment, the spotlight is on the recognitions.
This Thursday the action was divided into two parts. In the interval from 10:00 to 13:00 hours, more than fifteen participants took advantage of the second session of official tests in Famara to advance in the preparations for the fourth round of the Spanish Land Rally Championship – Rallycar. Among them was Pierre-Louis Loubet, the world-class driver invited by Club Deportivo Evesport.
The Gaul, at the controls of a Citroën C3 Rally2 assisted by Sports&You, completed some valuable kilometers that will help him prepare for the conejera round. They even had time to offer the opportunity to become an occasional Loubet "codriver" to a great Lanzarote rally fan, who made one of her great dreams come true and enjoyed this Rally2 and the driving of the world champion driver from Corsica.
Local Raúl Hernández, with his Škoda Fabia RS Rally2, was another of those who drove in the municipality of Teguise. The current national champion, Alexander Villanueva, and the Gran Canarian Juan Carlos Quintana also advanced work on their respective vehicles.
After the tests, the more than fifty contestants registered in the round also scoring for the Canary Islands Land Rally Championship had the optional opportunity to start going through the sections. The route of this edition is full of unprecedented specials, a circumstance that puts even greater emphasis on the notebooks and each of their annotations.
Friday will be one of the most intense of the entire week. From 7:30 a.m. the race headquarters will open for those teams that have not yet collected the documentation and the GPS. The recognitions will resume at 8:00 a.m., the same moment in which the technical verifications will start in the Maneje park, the capital neighborhood that hosts the assistance park on this occasion.
The engines of the competition vehicles will roar at 1:00 p.m. with the Shakedown of 'Puerto del Carmen'. The Qualifying Timed Section will be held in that same scenario, which will serve to define the starting order for Saturday. Then, at 6:20 p.m., attention will focus on the opening super special, which will be followed by different ceremonies on Fred.Olsen Avenue.
The 'Isla de Los Volcanes', with a security scoop
Tomorrow Friday at 9 a.m., in addition, Javier Gil-Vizuete will give a master presentation to the security and emergency services involved in the 27th Isla de Los Volcanes Rally – Ciudad de Arrecife Trophy about the SNAID system. The Club Deportivo Evesport event will be the first in the rally mode in all of Spain to have security devices as technologically advanced as this one. It will be at the test headquarters in the AGH.
The SNAID is a rapid extraction and cervical immobilization device that minimizes the risk of spinal cord injuries. This internationally patented system has already been recognized and authorized by organizations as important as NATO for military operations and the Medical Commission of the Royal Spanish Automobile Federation (RFEdA) intends to promote its use.
The attendees to the presentation, in addition to a theoretical session in which they will receive the most complete information about the operation of the SNAID, will also carry out a practice in which they will apply everything they have learned. During the course of the fourth round of the Spanish Land Rally Championship – Rallycar, the emergency services will have two SNAIDs, something never seen before on Spanish soil.
