The Municipal Government group of Arrecife, led by Mayor Yonathan de León, "continues to promote initiatives for Arrecife to become the capital of sports and events." The city, with a promenade by the sea and a unique marina in the Canary Islands, has launched a new sporting event to close this 2024, a year in which the City Council is commemorating the 225th anniversary of the founding of the municipality.
The Arrecife City Council, through the Department of Sports, led by councilor Eli Merino, informs that registrations are open to participate in the first edition of the Swim Silvestre Ciudad de Arrecife 2024, a unique event that invites swimming enthusiasts to close the year in a healthy and sporty way.
The event will take place this coming December 31st at El Reducto beach, which has premiered a new urban image this year after the remodeling and pedestrianization of a section of Avenida Fred Olsen. Starting at 10:00 AM, the waters that bathe the Islote de Fermina and El Reducto beach will host the Swim Silvestre Ciudad de Arrecife 2024.
This competition includes several categories for participants of all ages and levels, ensuring an inclusive and exciting experience for all:
• Prebenjamines: Distances of 50 and 100 meters.
• Minors: 600 meters.
• Adults and children: 1,400 meters.
The Swim Silvestre Ciudad de Arrecife 2024 is the first time it has been organized in the capital, marking "a new milestone in the Canary Islands' sports agenda." This event is not only an opportunity to enjoy sports, but also a space that "highlights the importance of our coast and the value of outdoor sports." It is part of the activities promoted by the City Council to boost the city throughout the year, and even more so during these end-of-year festivities, where the university population returns, and many tourists travel to Lanzarote to enjoy their Christmas holidays.
Councilor Eli Merino, who in addition to being directly responsible for the Sports Area, leads the Department of Tourism and Commerce, recalled that "events are helping the economic and social boost of the capital, where many accommodation establishments in the city increase their reservation levels attracted by the sports, gastronomic, musical and event offer that we are promoting in Arrecife as the capital of leisure, sports and events."

The Swim Silvestre Ciudad de Arrecife 2024 is organized by the Arrecife City Council with the support of Tripasión Eventos and B15 Active, and has the collaboration of the Cabildo de Lanzarote.
The mayor and the councilor of Sports encourage citizens to participate in this new sporting event, parallel to the San Silvestre Ciudad de Arrecife, with the opportunity to be part of this event that combines sport, community and a unique environment.
