The Real Club Náutico de Arrecife said goodbye this Tuesday to its sailors who will compete in the Snipe World Championship, which is held from October 26 to November 2 in Buenos Aires, Argentina. This international event is a unique opportunity for sailors from Lanzarote to demonstrate their talent in one of the most important competitions on the nautical calendar.
The facilities of the Real Club Náutico de Arrecife were the scene of the small reception held for the sailors from Lanzarote who are participating in the Snipe 2024 World Championship in a few days. The event was presided over by Julio Romero, president of the Real Club Náutico de Arrecife, accompanied by Manuel Torres, head of the nautical section, Angelines Silva, manager of the club, Estanis Bethencourt, commodore, and Tomás Gil, member.
In addition, Jesús Quevedo “Panta”, the club's first representative in the Snipe Spanish Championship held in 1970, was also present. The president of the Real Club Náutico de Arrecife, Julio Romero, expressed the “pride of being the club that contributes the largest number of sailors to the Snipe World Championship” and valued the “tireless work they have done over these months to represent Lanzarote and the Canary Islands in this international event”. Romero concluded by wishing the five participating teams the best of luck.
The delegation from the Real Club Náutico de Arrecife is made up of five teams, who have demonstrated their worth and are now preparing to represent Lanzarote and Spain on the world stage. The teams are made up of Leonardo “Nete” Armas and Miguel Bethencourt; Miguel Lasso and Tomás Fuentes; Miguel Guerra and Luis Hernández; Pedro Ferrer and Yaimur Hernández; and Alfredo González and Christian Sánchez, current world champions, who are already in Argentina, ready to defend their title.
The Snipe World Championship is a competition that brings together the best sailors in the world, and this year will be no exception. With 94 participants, the competition will be fierce, but our teams are prepared to face this challenge with the same passion that has brought them here.
Alfredo González and Cristian Sánchez have been in Argentina for a few days, training in the bay of Buenos Aires and with the aim of defending the champion title won in Portugal two years ago. The rest of the Real Club Náutico teams will leave for Argentina in the next few days, preparing for the start of the competition scheduled for next Tuesday, October 29.
