The Real Club Náutico de Arrecife sailing team was present this past weekend in the Spanish Association of Yacht Clubs Trophy, a competition that took place in the waters of Gijón and was organized by the Real Club Astur de Regatas. The five sailors from Lanzarote who traveled to Asturian lands performed a great navigation, occupying the first three positions of the podium and revalidating the Real Club Náutico de Arrecife's title of champion in the Spanish Association of Yacht Clubs Trophy.
The Spanish Association of Yacht Clubs Trophy took place in the optimist class, and the Real Club Náutico de Arrecife expedition that traveled to Gijón was made up of Yeico José Díaz Molina, Leandro de la Hoz González, Pelayo Sánchez Reguero, María Rizo García and Rosalía Lasso Morales. The five sailors were accompanied during the competition by coach Carlos Hidalgo.
The first two races of Saturday's day were marked by the light wind blowing in Gijón bay, increasing its intensity up to 15 knots in the last heat of Saturday. On Sunday, the sailors had to stay ashore due to weather conditions and the three planned races could not be held.
Pelayo Sánchez, with two second places and a fifth position on Saturday, took the individual victory in the Spanish Association of Yacht Clubs Trophy. The second place on the podium was occupied by Leandro de la Hoz, and in third position was María Rizo, with Real Club Náutico de Arrecife sailors dominating the podium of the general classification. In addition, María Rizo took the victory in the female category.
These results allow the Real Club Náutico de Arrecife to revalidate the title of champion of the Spanish Association of Yacht Clubs Trophy, demonstrating their sailors' good performance in any race course. A weekend in which they had to adapt to the demanding conditions of light wind in Gijón bay, with the intensity increasing in the third race on Saturday.
The president of the Real Club Náutico de Arrecife, Julio Romero, and the Board of Directors, wish to congratulate the five sailors and the coach who this weekend represented the club in the Trofeo Asociación Española de Clubes Náuticos, revalidating one more year the champion title. Romero positively values the presence of Pelayo Sánchez, Leandro de la Hoz and María Rizo in the first three positions of the general classification.
