In a crowded departure ceremony, and despite the cold wind that intensified as night fell, the Orvecame–Isla de Lanzarote Rally and City of Arrecife Trophy got underway from the ramp installed in the Modular Rambla of Arrecife, next to the Open Mall. The day began in the afternoon with the technical verifications of the vehicles and an autograph signing featuring the members of the main favorite teams.
The event had a notable public attendance, as well as a broad institutional, federative, and sponsor representation of the event. Among the authorities present stood out the president of the Cabildo de Lanzarote, Oswaldo Betancort, and the counselor of Ecological Transition and Energy of the Government of the Canary Islands, Mariano H. Zapata.
Precisely Zapata will participate this Saturday as co-driver in the “Electric Zero Car” of the Canarian Automobile Federation, integrated into the rally's safety caravan. At the wheel will be the triathlete based in Lanzarote, Iván Raña, who also has experience as a rally driver and will once again take the controls of a competition vehicle.
Of the 39 teams initially entered, numbers 25 and 32 finally withdrew, so 37 vehicles will take the start this Saturday in the first round of the Canary Islands Asphalt Rally Championship (CCRA) and the bp Las Palmas Rally Championship 2026.
